Once

I just saw this really amazing movie last night and I had to share. It's called Once and it's a little Irish film that was made for around $10,000.
The soundtrack is so wonderful I had to buy it from itunes today and I've listened to it probably 4 times already. Here is a video clip from utube of one of the songs with some footage from the film.
"Falling Slowly"
Go rent this movie and let me know what you think!

Fairy Foal

I have been pondering lately why I paint so many "cute" things. Today I finished a butterfly fairy foal on a mirror. It is the definition on cuteness. My personal tastes have always leaned more on the dark side. Just about every piece of clothing I wear is black. I have always enjoyed horror movies and my favorite holiday is Halloween. I don't know, can't figure this one out:)
Well, here is the mirror. Cute isn't it?

Interesting family member...

I always remember my grandfather telling me stories of his cousin, Dan Mannix. He was this very colorful character who left home to join the circus as a sword swallower. He wrote the Fox & the Hound. He travelled all over the world and wrote stories about the wilds of Africa (like meeting head hunters). He had several exotic animals on his property including a cheetah. The only problem was that we couldn't visit him even though he lived nearby because he was a recluse and didn't accept any visitors. Any. I thought I would look him up on Google to find more info and I discovered this entry in Wikipedia:

Pretty interesting guy. Too bad I never got to meet him.

On another note, I have finished several piece so far this week including some smaller signs. All my auctions will be 3 day auctions now so I can get items shipped to my customers for the holidays.

Here's a whimsical one that is on ebay right now.

Snow Day

It has been snowing all day and I am almost finished my latest Winter Unicorn piece. It is turning out so nice I had to share. Here is a pic I just took in my studio. Remember, it's not quite finished. Plus, you're not even seeing the whole thing. It's a sign board with a little shelf on top. Perfect for displaying small fairy or unicorn sculptures! Here he is:

I also took a pretty photo today of the snow laying on my last fairy tale pumpkin (it's a new breed of pumpkin, really pretty). I love snow in December. It really gets you into the Christmas spirit and feels so magical. Despite the weather I was able to varnish the two signs I mentioned in my last post. I photographed them under my porch so they may be a little dark. Please check my auctions to see them. I should have the unicorn piece finished and on ebay tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks for reading!

Winter has arrived...

It has been so windy and cold here lately I have not been able to go out and varnish and photograph my newest work. I am really excited to get them on ebay too. One is of a gorgeous white Shire carrying a sack of toys for Santa. He is so pretty and looks like he cam eout of a fairy tale. The second one is a Santa on a big Dressage horse. He is such a sturdy animal, he looks like a Holsteiner (horse, not cow:). He has a lot of chrome, 4 white stockings and a blaze. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow. I can handle the cold it's the wind that's driving me crazy!
Thankfully we got our tree over the weekend and I decorated it on Saturday while Zoe was asleep. The first two days were tough. How do you tell a 22 months old not to touch and play with the bright and shiny objects? One day I came out into the living room and she was lying underneath the branches looking up into the tree. Seemed like the lights had put her into some kind of trance. Here is a photo of the tree. As you will notice, not many ornments near the bottom.

Something's Fishy

Sadly, I killed my goldfish over the weekend. Kevin won him at a summer carnival. Probably spent a buck or two on the thing. I can't stand to not have at least one fish and I don't have enough time to hook up my aquarium so I went to Petsmart today and bought two more little goldfish. Together they were 25 cents. How cheap! The cats have long given up on drinking out of their water dish. They much prefer the fish flavored water. Here's a cute picture I took today of my cat.

I painted a few small signs yesterday but I haven't gotten outside to varnish and photograph them for ebay. I made a Paso Fino "Feliz Navidad" sign, a bunny "Hoppy Holidays" and a Walking Horse "Walking in a winter wonderland." sign. They are all small and will start out at around $14.99. On my art table I've started a beautiful white Shire horse sign. He is carrying a sack of toys for Santa. I also hope to complete an Appy Holidays sign this week and maybe a QH or palomino. Since it's getting close to Christmas most of my auctions will be 3 day auctions so please check back every few days for new items.
Mare-y Christmas!
