Work in Progress

I never like to show people something I'm working on until it's finished. I think it's because all my work (and most other artist's) goes through a serious case of the uglies. Maybe it looks fine to someone else but when I have a finished image in my brain of what I want my painting to looks like and it looks completely different, it's a bit frustrating. So I wanted to post a few pictures of my latest painting, a work in progress. So far I'm thinking it will be titled Hunter's Moon although my original title was Jump the Moon. I have to rework the fetlock/hoof area as I'm not happy with the shape yet. I may also get rid of the braids and opt for a more flowy mane (it wouldn't be a hunter than so I'd have to use my original title). I'd love to hear how other artists work through "the uglies". Being a self taught artist with no formal training, I'm always open to suggestions/critiques.

Thanks! Jen

Crescent

Finished another painting today. I am so excited to get back into painting!! I'm also really into this moon theme. I think I will make a series.
This painting is of an Arabian horse who's photo I took several years ago at a large Arab breed show in Quentin, PA. Our new house is even closer to Quentin so I'm sure I will be taking Zoe there a lot this year.
I love this horse's neck. There is so much power and beauty there. I also like how the curve of the horse's ear tips mimics the curve of the moon. I haven't added this piece to ebay yet but I'm sure I will soon. Please check back!

Moon Dance

One of my New Year's resolutions was to paint more fine art and less sign art and I have finally finished a little painting I'm quite happy with. I just added it to ebay this afternoon and it is called Moon Dance. I also forgot to mention that the Friesian sign in my last post is also on ebay. Here is a link to my auctions:

Thanks for looking and have a happy day!

Happy Easter!

Tomorrow is Easter. Since we have a two year old, we can't wait. This will be the first Easter she is old enough to search for her basket and go on egg hunts. We took her to one today billed as Lancaster County's largest egg hunt, it was more like an egg pick up though. All the parents rushed in when they shouldn't have and told their kids what to grab. Some doing all the work for them. Being the kind of person that has no place putting candy in their mouth, I let Zoe do all the work and picked up a few peanut butter eggs for Kevin and I. How could I resist?
I also managed to paint a sign this afternoon of a lovely Friesian horse cantering in a Spring landscape. I can't wait for Spring and I can't wait to start gardening since this is the first Spring we own our own house with a nice 1/2 acre backyard. I spent all evening trimming and sawing the dead lower branches of a large pine tree so I don't think I will be able to pick up my paint brush until Monday or Tuesday.

So, I wish you all a most Joyous and Happy Easter tomorrow. Eat some PB eggs for me:)
I think I'll be downing a percocet.

Birthday

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile!
Yesterday was my birthday so I had to do something fun. I had my mother in law take Zoe and I to Longwood Gardens, one of my favorite places on earth. I was sick (again) last week so I wasn't able to paint much but I do have a few pretty pictures of flowers to share. Something to get everyone in the Spring mood...

Water droplets on a hibiscus.

Zoe admiring the Spring flowers.

Lovely Gerbera daisy.

Lilies that smelled so sweet with a wall of purple orchids above.

Orange orchid.

Beautiful rose.

One of Longwood's many garden cats. This guy was really friendly.

I do have a few pieces listed on ebay. Several hand painted pendants and two signs.
Here is the hunter/jumper horse sign.
