A little Halloween silliness...

Twas the night before Halloween and all through our spooky pad
No ghosts were out haunting, no spirits to be had
The pumpkins were lined down the driveway so near
In hopes a witch or werewolf soon would be here!

Our little mummy was wrapped all snug in her crypt
With dreams of candy corn and apples, caramel dipped.
I was in my own vault, asleep like the dead
My husband the Hessian soldier, still out looking for his head!

When out in the yard I heard a noisy rattle
Like the rusty bells on our old haunted cattle
I torn off my vault's lid as quick as a flash
What was the racket? Whose head I should I bash?

And there she stood, a magical site
The loveliest witch to haunt this wondrous night!
She was riding not a broom but a jet black mare
Tail blowing in the wind, prancing 'round without care.

The full moon was out lighting her way
She carried a bag of sparkling powder she borrowed from the Fae
Dusting the pumpkins one by one
With Halloween magic just for fun.

I crawled back to my bed so she could go about her night
of spreading spooky cheer underneath the pale moon light
I looked out my window for one last site as she sang
Happy Halloween to all, and to all a good fright!

Chadds Ford Pumpkin Carve (part 2)

These are not my pumpkins but I thought I would share. After I carve my pumpkin it's nice to get around and look at others. The crowds are huge though so it'shard to get up close and get a steady shot.

The first one below won Best Overall and I knew it would as soon as I saw it!

Weekend Adventure

I took my mom with me for a weekend adventure carving Ice Age 3 pumpkins for the dvd promo (see post below). We travelled to beautiful Bucks County, PA and since the weather was so rainy, we decided to spend the night. I was so glad that we did. We awoke this morning to brilliant blue skies and gorgeous fall foliage in Doylestown. What a lovely town! We found out that a castle called Fonthill and the Moravian Tile Works was right behind the hotel so we decided to check it out even though it wasn't open yet. Close by we found a beautiful cemetery to take some photos in as well. It was a really wonderful weekend of pumpkin carving, meeting new people and taking in the wonderful autumn landscape. I think next year we will come back for the pumpkin carve at the Moravian Tile Works!

If you like cemetery photos, check out my other blog, The Night Mare, I'm going to put some more on there.

St. Francis, my favorite saint. This statue was part of an old grave and someone actually put bird seed in the bowl he was holding. This leaf just flew in too.

An angel in the cemetery.

I loved the dove on this old tombstone.

Another grave with a finger.

Gorgeous yellow trees really brighten up a graveyard.

The Moravian Tile Works. The gift shop was open and full of gorgeous tiles to buy. I bought one of Fonthill.

A handmade tile cornerstone.

Fonthill, home of Henry Mercer. I'm dying to go inside someday.

Some pumpkins at the Ice Age promo event.

One of the coolest home & garden shops I've ever been to. They had SO MANY great Halloween decorations. I had to buy some things here. It's called Buckman's Garden Works - well worth the trip!

Ice Age 3

A post or two back I mentioned that I would be carving pumpkins for the dvd promo release of Ice Age 3 this weekend. Part of the arrangement was that I bring a precarved pumpkin with the dvd cover on it. Well, I've worked my magic today and after several hours have it completed. They didn't want me to gut it so you won't be able to see it lit. They always look so much better with a little fire!
I'll be at Winding Brook Farm on Saturday and Sunday and maybe on the Philly news too. We'll see!

Chadds Ford Great Pumpkin Carve (part 1)

Oh boy, I am so tired I can barely hold my eyes open! I just had to share some photos of our pumpkin at the carve tonight. We won't know who the winners are until Friday.

Zoe sitting with our pumpkin. She thought it was important to share her Ariel lunchbox.

I've got my drawing on. Now I'm ready to carve!

My Mom hollows out the back and puts in the candles. No easy task, it takes just as long as the front design.

Has a ghost from the Brandywine Battlefield shown up?

No, that's just Zoe and I!

But a real witch did show up to pose with my pumpkin!

Turn the lights off and the real magic begins!

It's like Christmas around here!

Well, not quite. In fact it's the most Halloween that my house has ever looked. I just can't stop buying and making decorations! What I mean is that I've been getting the wost wonderful gifts today, I can't control my giddiness!
First one came UPS this morning from one of my dear customers and now friend, Paulette. She bakes dozens and dozens of delicious cookies over the holidays to sell and she sent me some to sample. I shouldn't say sample because she sent enough that I really should put some in the freezer! She also sent Zoe an awesome Halloween book and two beautiful cards. Paulette and I are working on a children's Halloween book. Hope to share more about this project soon.

Then the mailman came with a package at noon with a super cool ornament I won from Tracey Kraft of Studio at Wadsworth Noll. You can check out her blog: Whisperings 13.
Isn't he great! I've been looking for some ornaments for my second Halloween tree and I love how he looks on it. Think I 'll keep him out all year!

So in my euphoric state I had to create some art. Not just my normal but something fresh and new. I have made several painting and sketches over the years that I wanted to turn into sculptures so I thought, no time like the present. Last year I painted a black cat with some mice riding on his back and I thought he would be fun to sculpt out of paper clay. Here's a few work in progress photos...

Building an armature.

Just adding the clay.

Main cat nearly finished. Have to work on the paws, mouse rider and maybe a fancy saddle pad for him. Yippee, this is fun!!!

If you're in South Eastern PA tomorrow, come see me carve a giant pumpkin at the Chadds Ford Great Pumpkin Carve. I'll be working on pumpkin #21 - I may be wearing a witch hat. Now, what to carve, what to carve...

Kitten update & pumpkin carving...

Just thought I would let everyone know how our kitten, Pumpkin - Jasper - Toots, is doing. I can't believe how big he's gotten! He's been dewormed but still has some really stinky toots. He also still gets called several names. I've been letting him come outside with me and the other cats but he's so excited and adventurous, it's hard to get a proper photo.

Most look like this...

I was lucky enough to get a few nice pictures today...

And Meemee and Zazu are finally starting to make nice with the little guy. Poor thing just wants to play with them all the time!

In other/weird news. Last week I had an LA PR firm hire me to carve pumpkins in Bucks County this weekend for the DVD release of Ice Age 3. I still won't believe it until it happens, it seems like such an odd thing to be doing. Part of the deal is that I have to carve a large pumpkin the day before with a picture from the movie. That will be hard but I think I can pull it off. I bought a pumpkin this weekend and it's probably close to 100 pounds. If anyone is in the area on Saturday and Sunday, I will be at Winding Brook Farm in Warrington, PA. Looks like a nice place. I'm bringing my mom to help.

Believe it or not, I have to carve this design:

On this pumpkin...

We'll see!
Wish me luck!
