What's Blooming Wednesday!

Now that spring has sprung and I'm out in the garden a lot, I want to start a new weekly feature on my blog - What's Blooming Wednesday. Since it's early I may not have a new flower or veggie to share every week but I sure noticed a whole lot of pretty coming up in the yard today. If you love to garden and you have a blog, maybe you'll join me with a Blooming Wednesday feature of your own. If you do, let me know!

Jonquils

Lungwort (I love this plant!)

Violas (purple and orange remind me of Halloween)

Windflowers

Pansy

Mushroom!

It's Official!

This week it came, the thing I've been waiting for since December, a contract to become an official artist with The Trail of Painted Ponies. I have possibly two designs that will be made into production in the near future. One will most likely be made next year and that was my winning design for their holiday contest, Appy Holidays. The other will just have to be a surprise for now! I am so grateful to be given this opportunity. When I left my "real" job exactly 10 years ago next month, I never thought something this cool would happen to me!

Here is my newest custom Painted Pony, Hopalong. Something about this time of year makes me want to paint rabbits. This pony features 5 bunnies: Rex, Lop, Dwarf, Dutch and English Spot. I will have him for sale on ebay soon.

I've also been the lucky recipient of several blog awards lately. I'm a little too busy to play along just right now but I wanted to say thank you to First Draught Farm, Dreamspirations Gallery, Chronicles of Whimsy and Ranch Dressing - Cowgirl Style.

Thank you so much! I'm sorry I don't always get around to comment on everyone's blogs.
Have a wonderful weekend. I'm off to the sea shore tomorrow to build sand castles.

We're all mad here!

Have you seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie yet? I have, twice! We are huge Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fans in this house so we couldn't miss it.
In my primitive and folk art group, PFATT, we had a Alice in PFATTland challenge this week and I wanted to share the piece I created. My version of the Cheshire Cat with my favorite quote in the banner above his head. He's painted on an unused oak cupboard door. I even added a little dragon fly and a rocking horse fly to the border with some heart vines for the Red Queen. I will be listing it on Ebay later tonight if you're interested!

Last week was my birthday and I was sick with bronchitis (still sick really). I didn't do much because, well, I couldn't, but my Mom brought me over this lovely basket filled with all sorts of spring seeds, organic fertilizer and a cute dish towel. She also bought me an AeroGarden so I am interested to see how well that works. Got an herb garden started in it today. Also built a teepee out of branches and planted peas to grow up and make a hideout for Zoe.

This week I've donated the giveaway item on the EHAG Emporium so if you'd like to win one of my spooky tree pendants, scoot on over there and leave a comment!

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you are enjoying this warm, spring like weather!

Pumpkin the Bee Hunter

It's hard to believe that the little ball of orange fur we brought home on Labor Day,
is turning into such a big tiger!

The weather has been so nice the last few days, I let the cats out with me while I worked in the garden. The late winter flower blooms have awoken the honey bees and Pumpkin is on patrol to protect us from them...

I can't believe I got the bee in the last photo. Click on the picture for a larger image,
it's right around his whiskers.

(No bees were harmed in the making of this blog post.)

Snow Geese

We live about 30 minutes south of Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and every year, at the end of the winter, it's a resting point for snow geese in their annual migration.
It was a nice day today so we decided to check it out. I think there were around 80,000 geese there.

While we were walking along the trail toward the lake, the geese in the field decided to take off for the lake. I turned my camera on to video mode to take a short movie - so sorry for my OMG comments. I was totally blown away by the noise of thousands of geese flying right over my head (and a little worried about poop)!

Certainly not as exciting but I finished the spring mare and foal folk art painting I was working on in the post below. I think I will put it up for sale on the PFATT Marketplace later this week.

We have CROCUS!

I saw my first crocus of the year this afternoon, hiding out with the winter aconite. The smell was heavenly. I didn't realize how fragrant they are. Love the orange color too.

Here's our kitty, Pumpkin, doing his best meercat impression while watching birds from my art table.

Lastly a small cabinet door that I am painting in my folk art style for the PFATT Marketplace. It's going to have all sorts of spring colors and patterns around the frame when I'm finished!
