Baaaaa... a WIP

My little one went to her Grammy's house today to spend the night so I thought I would really challenge myself.
I started painting a sheep... in OILS... on a big canvas! Okay, maybe 18 x 24 inches isn't that big but it seems like a house compared to the pendants I've been painting lately.
The problem I have with painting is that it goes through a stage were it doesn't look like my mind wants it to and I get frustrated and want to quit.
I really hope I can push though this one. Also hoping that since it's not a horse I won't be quite as picky and detail obsessed.

PLEASE, if you have ANY tips, suggestions, etc., leave a comment. I haven't any formal art training so I really have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks:)

So here's the work in progress (WIP) photos. I still have a bit to go so don't tell me it doesn't look finished, I know that:)

I don't paint in oils so I can't be much help there. I just wanted to say that this is looking really nice! It's fun to do something different. :-)

I'd say it's coming along nicely Jen. I like the 'texturey feel' of it's coat. Always fun to view a WIP!

I don't do many oils as the smell gives me a headache, I DO love the angle the sheep is at and like how you have built up the colors. I know how you are feeling-used to do 16" x 20" but after several years of nothing bigger than 7"x7" I'm afraid I'd be lost on a larger size now!

Seems to me you are doing beautifully. I don't care for oils, I use acrylics. I do like the texture too though! Nice job!!!! I love seeing how people work!! Facinating!!

I don't have any art training either, you have heard of the blind leading the blind... You have natural talent so just keep painting ! I'm so like you, I look at some stages and think - ick, are you kidding me? This looks terrible ! They always seem to turn out ok. I don't work in oils so you are really on your own ! I think it is looking great !

I like the blue on the background. It makes the sheep pop off the canvas.

Well, as a girl who grew up amongst sheeps (my grandparents had a farm), I can most certainly say that your painting is wonderful :)

Its left ear appears larger than its right. What a sweet sheep though. I think there should be more sheepy art.

For me 8x10 is large. That is why ACEOs were such a boon for me ;).
