Having never raised a child before and possessing no knowledge of how kids develop artistically, I am constantly amazed by what my child comes up with. I know everyone probably says this about their kid and I'm sure viewing a blog post with the art of a 3 year old is at the very bottom of most people's lists but I just felt I had to share a few pieces. I really wish my mom would have kept some of my "early work" and I think it will be fun for Zoe to see when she gets older.
My studio walls are covered with my art and Zoe's art. So are my sketchbooks (her art often on top of my drawings). Her drawing here is of a crazy icecream cone with a spotty tongue named "Sugary".
This drawing is called "Sad Sun". When I asked why she said, because it's raining on him.
Dr. Cockroach drawn after we went to see Monsters vs. Aliens.
"Princess Roxanne" is a drawing made of our mail carrier, Roxanne.
"Ghosts" - This drawing looks like one of those that the crazy kid draws in a horror movie when he starts seeing scary stuff in his house! Yikes!
"Ghost That Ate a Flower" - One of my very favorites. Her first flower drawing too. Maybe she's a budding Halloween artist?
And my newest Sleepy Hollow painting, 8" x 10" acrylic on masonite. I'm thinking of making prints of it.

Great post, my Grandmother always encouraged me to make art and kept all my drawings from when I was young.
Love the painting, spectacular.
Ohhhh I looove them!!! I love seeing their work!! Thank you for sharing!! I have two of these at home too!! We go through spiral notebooks like crazy. My pens are always disapearing. For some reason they both prefer black ink - go figure. How wonderful to hear her so self assured - she isn't becoming - she is!! Oh..and I adore your work - love your new ones! Beautiful creep cool!!!
Hugs, Sarah
Mt mom kept a lot of my art from when I was a kid, I have a lot of self portraits, monsters and dinosaur drawings. It really is fun looking back at where I started out.
Also, if I beg you to make a print of that painting, will that sway you? ;) I love the legend of sleepy hollow and would love to hang this in my home.
Uh oh, I thought the ice cream guy was a carrot guy! Oops!
She is very creative! I'm impressed by the thought of what she was drawing. "Ghost who ate a flower" is my fav.
Honestly, despite the amazing works by artists such as yourself... who make beautiful, detailed, fantastic paintings...
children's artwork has, and always will be my favorite.
It's almost impossible for adults to reproduce it in a manner that looks believable, because they (regardless of how creatively amazing they are) just don't look at the world the same way a child does. Too much life experience gets in the way.
Thank you for sharing! Zoe's work is fantastic and creative! I agree with you on Ghost Who Ate a Flower... that one is just great!
I enjoyed them, too. They remind me of my kid's artwork when they were little. I used to frame them and then change them out every so many months. Your daughter is learning so much from you about the "artistic process" which will carry over into everything else she does--paying attention to the details of life, for one. Quite nice, I'd say. You're a good mom.
I love the pics! The ghost that ate a flower I think takes the cake for me!
be well..
Aw, so SWEET!!! Your daughter sounds very special, and looking at her drawings I would say she's inherited your talent for sure!
Ghost that ate the Flower is my favorite too! :-)
I love the ghost drawings, especially the white on black. I think she is on to something there. Very cool. It's funny when I was younger, decades ago I could draw anything and very well. Now it's gone. So, I appreciate art in all forms.
I love that you posted this! Through the eyes of a child.....
She will cherish this post and her artwork when grown up.
Definitely an artist, and a future best selling artist at that!
Your new painting is GORGEOUS! PLEASE make prints, and maybe cards too :)
