I bought this Obedient Plant (aka False Dragonhead - cool name) at a plant sale for a buck! Glad I did, I really like it's shape. My husband bought me 2 crape myrtles the other day. I have been wanting one all summer. Just planted this one yesterday. I love the dark foliage! A little more work on my Grim Reaper. Still working on the frame and may give him a bit of a face as well.

Thank you Echinacea!
I bet you thought I had a cold! No, I was out deadheading flowers yesterday and I'm so glad I left the seed heads of the purple coneflower because this morning I could hear a young goldfinch outside talking to his parents. When I went out with my camera, he stayed and let me take his photo and a video!

Awesome photos, Jen! Aren't goldfinches fun to watch hop around on the spent coneflowers eating the seeds? I leave mine up all fall and winter for them. They look pretty with snow on them too.
Your reaper is looking great! :-)
Your echinacea looks like mine. Great photos. Are you going to plant any new bulbs this Fall? I've been stocking up!
really nice video :D
pretty good buy for a dollar!
Your photos are beautiful - so nice that the little goldfinch was kind enough to hold still for you. :)
That Grim Reaper painting is shaping up beautifully too!
Thanks guys! I'm sorry I don't reply to comments as much as I should - and I always forget to check if someone replied to a comment I left on their blog.
Linda, I do want to plant some more bulbs soon. I was really happy with the allium I planted last year. It was gorgeous in the spring and lasted longer than most bulbs, think I'll get some more. I adore tulips too. I'd love to get a few in purples and oranges - something out of the ordinary.
Lovely, lovely, lovely photos...and video! I never dead head my coneflowers either because I know the goldfinches love them! The video is great....love how he really has to tug at them!
Oh, those goldfinches! They are yakking it up big time in my yard and I can't keep them in food! They are eating the seeds from the plants and emptying my feeder at the same time. I don't know if that means it's gonna be a bad winter or what, but it's sort of scaring me!
Oh, the goldfinch is so cute. I love them. His coloring is very detailed. thanks for sharing the photos and video.
I always leave the heads on my flowers - echinacea, bee balm, rudbeckia, etc...we get so many birds feeding from them that I can actually reduce the amount of seed I put out!
Have a great weekend!
