Harvest Moon & Music

That orbed maiden, with white fire laden,
Whom mortals call the moon.
- Percy Bysshe Shelley

We had a spectacular harvest moon last night. I took Zoe to the park in the evening to play but really it was because I didn't want to miss the moon rise. I was blown away when I saw it coming up from behind a gorgeous old white barn. I have to paint this someday! My mom says it looks like something Andrew Wyeth would have painted. I have to agree.

And when I woke up in the morning and was sitting in my studio, checking my email, the moon was right outside my window! I couldn't believe it was still out. I am in love with the moon. What is it that draws us to it? Something magical I think.

Morning moon.

I've been working on a new playlist for my blog. I didn't select the autostart function so you'll have to scroll down my right sidebar and hit play. I'm not a huge fan of autostart music on blogs. I'm often listening to my music and opening several windows at once. I don't like to hear a jumbled up mix of music from other blogs over top of my own. So, the first three songs I'm totally nuts over lately. If you listen to them, let me know what you think. The first song makes me want to cry although I've never lived in Brooklyn.

Lastly, I'm getting rid of the Entrecard ad widget on my sidebar this week. It was a fun experiment. I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through Entrecard but they are changing their rules, making us show ads we don't approve of. I don't like blogs that have a ton of ads anyway so buh, bye Entrecard.

If you are a blogger and would like to swap links with me, please let me know. I like art, photography, horses, gardening and Halloween. If you have a blog about polictics, religion, etc. or if you don't blog frequently, please don't ask to exchange links. You must add my link in order for me to reciprocate. Thank you!

Jen, I'm in love with the moon also :) I wonder who wouldn't? Ahh well, I love the pic of the moon over the barn, too!

And your music is excellent. I can get the "Brooklyn" referral, for sure! :)

I adore the moon too and I would buy a print of that shot of the moon coming over the barn. REally captures a moment. I'm sorry to hear your leaving EC. I'm really hoping that all the good blogs don't leave. I'm waiting to see for the time being. I'd love to swap links if you like. I will add you to my blogroll so that I don't forget to check your lovely blog.

What amazing photos!

I'm sorry not to be able to hear your playlist - we can no longer listen this in the UK due to licensing laws :(

I'm totally with you about ads on blogs. I've had several people approach me, but I tend to avoid blogs with ads, and so didn't want them on mine.

We took pictures of the moon last night, too. Ours were taken by the seashore. Spectacular!

I want to know how you manage to take such great pictures of the moon. I've wanted to capture some pretty cool moon pics over the years but can NEVER manage to pull it off!!

Hey Jen, I took a couple weeks off of blogging and am trying to get caught up! I see you've been busy, thanks for sharing all your wonderful Fall photography! I can stare at the moon for hours, it seems.

I totally agree with the autoplay music on blogs. I'm listening to my own music, and even if I'm not, it's distracting and makes it hard to read the post. Especially when you have to scroll down forever to find the player to switch it off. It actually keeps me away from those blogs, no matter how much I may like them.

Jamie, I have been trying to take pics of the moon for ages too - I think I figured it out last night. I set my camera to manual. Normally I would make the shutter speed really slow but it was letting in too much light so I set it around 1/80. I was playing around with a lot of other things too so maybe it was one of those other things that did it. Other tip, set a ten second delay so you'r not holding the camera when the shutter goes off - use a tripod or something to hold it still.

Hi Jen,
Delicious moon photos!
Of your new music, I especially like "Falling in Love at a coffee shop". I've heard that music on a phone commercial on tele and always liked it but never knew the name or who did it. Thank you! Deb

Oh, you're so lucky to have a harvest moon already. I just hope we don't have to leave Vermont before that most magical moon makes its appearance. I loved your shots and I'm envious.
I'm staying with Entrecard until the first "paid ad" appears unauthorized on my widget.
Anyway, loved the photos.

I couldn't believe how bright the moon was. it was gorgeous, even hidden behind the clouds it was a great sight.

I LOVE that photo with the barn and the moon. Who needs to paint it when you have captured it here perfectly?! :)

I've bookmarked and marked you as "follow" because I don't want to miss your blog each day. Sorry you are leaving EC. The only thing I like about it is that you know I was here even if I don't have a comment each day.

Fantastic pictures of the moon. Did you use a tripod? I've been trying to get a decent picture of the moon for a while without much success :-(

Hi John,
Yes, I did use a little tabletop tripod (on top of a garden table on top of an even smaller garden end table). Also used the self timer so I wasn't holding the camera when it took the photo.

I am not getting rid of Ecard yet because I still want to be able to find some of my favorite places to visit, but since you already got rid of yours, I will be adding you to my bloglist on my left sidebar. Link me back if you would like. Thanks!
