Wildflower Walk

It was a freaky 80+ degrees yesterday so Zoe and I decided to pack a picnic lunch go for a walk at Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve.  Poor flowers, it was a bit too hot for them, and us too!

Dutchman's Breeches, in the bleeding heart family.
Their seeds are planted by ants, no wonder they were everywhere!
Even growing off rocky areas.

Wilty Virginia bluebells don't like the sun and heat.

Bending over to fix my shoe, I nearly put my hand on this guy!
A wolf spider perhaps?

A lovely tree planter created by Mother Nature.

We found this neat looking hobbit hole.

One of my favorites, a yellow trout lily.

It was so hot, the cool creek felt like heaven!
Everything is starting to turn green. My little Zoe looked like a woodland fairy child. :)

What a great little adventure! I went hiking this past weekend and it really looked more like fall than spring. Haven't the trees gotten the seasonal message???

Jennifer, I can't believe it was so warm out your way! And once again, you and Zoe are out doing wonderful and interesting things. She DOES look like a little woodland fairy in your photos. Thank you once more for sharing!

Beautiful pictures! I love the Trout Lilly. I remember when I used to ride down this wonderful old road on horseback there was a Trout Lilly growing on the hill side above. They are truly beautiful to look at!

It's so hot? What? How lucky YOU are. I love your wildflower finds. Thank you for sharing them, and you also have quite a buddy with little Zoe there.

I so enjoy getting your blog in my mail. You are very adventurous and I like seeing a child get outside often as you do, too many kids inside and TV.Wonderful pics as always.

Such wonderful photos (even the spider one - although it made me jump...LOL) We never hit the 80s because it was too cloudy here. Looks like you had a wonderful time! Theresa
