Mr. Owl and the Christmas Moon

There's a great hiking path near me and I was told 2 weeks ago I would see a lot of owls.
Well, I did but I didn't have my camera with me.
Fast forward to tonight and I am so happy I was able to get a few shots!

dancing shadows."

The full moon was incredible tonight. At first it was really orange, much more so that this photo.
This is the Christmas moon or also called yule moon, long night moon, bitter moon or, in English medieval times, the oak moon.

Another woodland creature I recently came across...

I haven't got a photo of an owl yet and that is on my "to do" list! Great moon shots, too! I tried to take some of the lunar eclipse, but I had to use my camera's manual focus, and I couldn't really see, so they all came out blurry! Oye! well, at least I got to see it!

OMG! You captured the Yule Moon Perfectly! I've been hearing the Great Horned Ones calling here tonight and the past few nights. It's their time now. LOVE these shots Jen. You are a witchy one now, aren't you?!

Fabulous evening shots, Jen! They remind me of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I loved all the photos, but the second to last is stunning. What kind of farm is this? The moon, the trees, the roof line all hugged by the night light. Wow.

No. Really. WHEN ARE YOU OFFERING these for sale, Jen? You KNOW I love your art, but you really really really should consider offering the photographs. Did I mention, really? :)

Happy Holidays!~Zan

I've been trying to get a photo of one of our owls too but they are most active when I would really need a spotlight to even see it.
They are amazingly built predators. Large but lightweight, enormous wingspan (most are as wide as I am tall), grippy feet and talons that are HUGE.

I've tried shooing them out of my yard before (before I had a cool camera) and they just look down at me unconcerned.

Your moon photos are GORGEOUS. I wanted to see the eclipse this morning but we had a foggy cover and I was in town visiting a friend and didn't have my usual perfect moon/sun views.

We have a horned owl that hoots and hollers in our backyard. Been here half a dozen years. Too elusive to take a pic of, though. I don't know how you do it... but to capture that owl, the racoon and the MOON shining through that tree makes me want to come along with you on a ride to anywhere. You see such AMAZING stuff and blink it into permenence with such ease.

Really gorgeous photos, Jen - I saw a great horned at the pond outback during the day when we had that heat spell (Aug?) and was too stunned to run get my camera. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and spiritual encounter you experienced!

Those are gorgeous pictures! I was reading about a witch who had a pet owl last night and this just reminded me of that. Very cool.
