Cats + New Work

My mom has a bunch of cats.
Here closest neighbors are all Amish farms and the kitties seem to gravitate to her back porch because she feeds them. I thought I'd take some photos yesterday because they are all so cute.

A new whimsical horse mixed media painting I made for the PFATT Marketplace which opens tonight.
Chunky 8" x10" canvas with acrylics, scrapbook papers and lots of glitter.

New Blooms & Mother Goose

It's Wednesday already, I can't believe how time flies!
Here are some new flowers in the garden, the above photo shows two types of salvia and a burgundy penstemon in the back. I'm mad about salvias lately.

Lovely Delphinium. I think this would make a nice watercolor painting.

A new addition to my garden, Persian Cornflower.

Yarrow with a Scotch broom in tha background.

I love the delicate pink flowers on this toadflax.

In PFATT we are having a Mother Goose Challenge this week.
My favorite rhyme as a child was "Banbury Cross" and I have always wanted to incorporate this theme into a piece of artwork. Here is my painting of the "fine lady upon a white horse". I wanted it to have a whimsical Rennaissance feel. Be sure to search Ebay for PFATT and see what our other members have created!

Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross
To see a fine lady upon a white horse
With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
She shall have music wherever she goes

We're all mad here!

Have you seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie yet? I have, twice! We are huge Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fans in this house so we couldn't miss it.
In my primitive and folk art group, PFATT, we had a Alice in PFATTland challenge this week and I wanted to share the piece I created. My version of the Cheshire Cat with my favorite quote in the banner above his head. He's painted on an unused oak cupboard door. I even added a little dragon fly and a rocking horse fly to the border with some heart vines for the Red Queen. I will be listing it on Ebay later tonight if you're interested!

Last week was my birthday and I was sick with bronchitis (still sick really). I didn't do much because, well, I couldn't, but my Mom brought me over this lovely basket filled with all sorts of spring seeds, organic fertilizer and a cute dish towel. She also bought me an AeroGarden so I am interested to see how well that works. Got an herb garden started in it today. Also built a teepee out of branches and planted peas to grow up and make a hideout for Zoe.

This week I've donated the giveaway item on the EHAG Emporium so if you'd like to win one of my spooky tree pendants, scoot on over there and leave a comment!

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you are enjoying this warm, spring like weather!

Happy Valentines Day!

I know, I know, I am one day late but there's nothing wrong with spreading a little love past the 14th. Last night marked the start of the Penny Feather Tree Charity Auction. I hope everyone that reads this goes to the auction this week and checks it out. Even if you don't have the funds to place a bid, please add it to your watch list. The more watchers, the more exposure it will get. I am a member of PFATT, a group of primitive and folk artists, and sadly, one of our members was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. We all came together under the direction of Lori Davis of Vintage Palette Art to create ornaments for this tree. The proceeds will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Inc.-Alabama Chapter.
Here's a picture of the tree in all it's glory. Isn't it lovely?

Here's a picture of my ornament.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Of mice and jack o' lanterns...

You can get a lot accomplished when there's several feet of snow outside your door and the husband is home to watch the wee one. I finished my previously mentioned owl on the pumpkin sculpture and painted two fun welcome signs, one with a black Percheron and some spring flowers and another with a jack o' lantern and a mouse peeking out of the nose. I suppose they shall both make their way over to Ebay sooner or later!

My daughter, who just turned 4, attempted her first horse drawing this week (I am so proud). Thought I would share. This is a large drawing on a piece of oversized construction paper I taped to the wall. She said the horse has a "million legs" (yikes). There are also some fairies around, Tinker Bell is green and Silver Mist is flying by on the top right. Bother fairies are holding flowers and the large horse has a baby horse with it and a rider.

Don't forget! The Penny Tree Auction starts this weekend. Proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Read more about this wonderful work of art here, on the PFATT BLOG. I donated a glittery unicorn heart ornament for the tree.

What's coming up?

Well, for one, the first flowering bulbs are blooming in my yard - snowdrops - yippee!
I know, I can't believe it either. Soon the aconite will be blooming and then the crocus. I was all in a tizzy when I went out to put warm water in the bird bath and saw these little ladies peeping their heads up through the leaves.
Thank you snowdrops, you made my day:)

Next thing that's coming "up" is the EHAG Emporium. You may have noticed my little button advertising this event on my sidebar. This project has become my little baby this month and I am so excited that I suggested it to the group. We have over 20 amazing pieces of original, one of a kind, Halloween art for sale starting January 31st and 9PM EST. If you love all things spooky, witchy, ghostly and whimsical, please drop by. I've added many sneak peeks to the blog as well as a list of artists participating this month. All artwork will be sold on a first come, first served basis. I have a sculpture for sale and it isn't a horse for once!

Lastly, we have the PFATT Penny Tree Auction coming up. I've donated an original Valentine's Day ornament for the tree to be auctioned off in February with the proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Please check out the PFATT Blog to see pictures and learn more about this special project.

Grim & Thank You!

I finally finished Mr. Grim. I'm so happy with how he turned out! Not sure what to do with him, he looks so nice with the Headless Horseman. I would love to have prints made of the two but I'm not sure how saleable they are. We'll see, right now they like living with their creator:)

I also wanted to give a big old blog hug to Tracey of Wild Horse Moon and Black Feather Farm. I was lucky enough to win her latest blog giveaway, a gorgeous multimedia necklace with a cool vintage photo of a cowgirl. As soon as I unwrapped it I had to put it on, it's lovely! For now I'll hang it on my bedroom mirror so I can look at it every day.

If you're feeling lucky this month, head over to the PFATT Blog
and enter their fabulous fall giveaway. There are a bunch of wonderful prizes!

Doodle

Sometimes it all starts with a doodle. I was talking to a friend on the phone and drawing on a sketchpad when I came up this this Headless Horseman painting.

PFATT & More

Great news today! I've been accepted into PFATT, the best primitive and folk art group on Ebay! I really enjoy painting in a folk art style and can't wait to contribute to this wonderful group! Be sure to check out the PFATT blog and search for PFATT work on Ebay!

And what would a summer blog post from me be without some recent photos from my garden...

Finally snapped a photo of a lovely black swallowtail while I was out photographing my pendants.

Little finches getting a drink on a hot afternoon.

What in the world is this mushroom? I think it looks gross (I won't tell you what else I think it looks like).
ps. Thanks to Rebecca's comment we now know this is a stinkhorn mushroom - a dog stinkhorn to be exact! Thank you Rebecca!

Meemee resting in the cool grass.

And also some new pendants. One Halloween witch horse for Ebay...

I really like this owl and want to keep him for myself. For now, he's on Etsy...

Happy Sunday!
