Green Tomatoes

"You know, when you get your first asparagus, or your first acorn squash, or your first really good tomato of the season, those are the moments that define the cook's year. I get more excited by that than anything else." -
Mario Batali

When I came home from vacation I was totally surprised at how much my veggie garden had grown. I had several huge cucumbers, one gigantic zucchini, a couple of peppers and about 9 baby cantaloupes that are fist size. My husband is eagerly awaiting the ripening of these bad boys. Last year I went with all heirloom tomatoes, this year I chose a mix. These are Jetsetter which the tag said are disease resistant. The plant is taller than my husband who is 6" 3"! Any day now right?

Back to the studio for me after over a week off. Of course I had the Headless Horseman on the brain again:) He's currently on Ebay.
The EHAG challenge for July is The Brother's Grimm. Hmmm... I'm thinking Hansel and Gretel maybe???

How does your garden grow?

Now that the hot weather has rolled around, the tomato plants are growing like crazy. Especially my two heirloom Brandywine tomatoes I planted about 20 days earlier than I should have. The red one already has a nice size tomato on it. My Washington Boro plant has several tomatoes and a few are just starting to get the lightest pink blush. I can't wait! I am especially excited to make sauce and salsa.
My husband's favorite pasta topper is pesto and luckily I had just enough basil to make a batch for his Father's Day dinner. There is nothing so good as fresh pesto made with basil from the garden!
