One down, one to go! Thanks for all the tips and comments from my last post. My mom suggested that I tie the bait up in something and wire it to the back of the trap so it would have to pull on it and put pressure down on the door release plate. It worked in less than 2 hours! Boy was that guy mad. We released him in a large park, away from the road. Saw three other groundhogs there too. I hope he's okay. I felt a little bad for him when we left. Now off to set the trap again for the last (I hope)whistlepig.

i thought that was a beaver! o.0 he should be fine where you put him :) much better to catch and release then what the people I knew in Alberta would do to them (really bad and sad :/ :( )
I'm glad you could get rid of him the "nice" way. I would just tell my husband when one would dig around the barn and they would mysteriously disappear. But really they are mean little things.
One chased my son down the driveway when he was little. I think having the dog helps to keep them away from around the house now, and there's plenty of field to roam in.
Wow, look at those teeth! I wouldn't want him in the same yard as the little one, that's for sure. Hope he doesn't remember his way back, lol. I didn't know there were two of them! Good luck with #2!

I thought he was a beaver, too! I never think of groundhogs actually being a nusiance....just something that looks for their shadow on groundhog day! ;)

Yikes girl, and I thought my oppossums and raccoons were a nuisance!! He doesn't look like a happy camper so I'm glad you gave him a new home!

Boy, he IS a big guy! I had a problem with Armadillos when I lived in Texas. lol They brought me to tears on many occasions because they would constantly rip up new seedlings! I trapped several...must say, I lost my patience on many occasions. Good luck w number two!

Jennifer, I can relate to your groundhog dilemma, having grown up next to a farm with racehorses in Mechanicsburg, PA. They reproduce like rabbits!
