Thursday at the Barn

A warm, peaceful Thursday at the barn.
Thought I would bring my camera along while I feed the horses.

"Do you think she'll put down that beeping thing and feed us lunch soon?"

No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the barn!

Drafts and Sheep

Despite the cold and threat of snow flurries, it's always fun to walk around Landis Valley
They had several activities for children today including a lesson, 1892 style, in their old school house.

This black Clydesdale was really keeping his eye on that sheep!

An adorable Percheron was checking out my camera. He was interested in the noises it was making.

Tanya the Turkey is one of my favorite Landis Valley residents. She's so ugly, she's cute!

This is inside the school house. I was never able to go in the classroom before!
The teacher did a wonderful job telling as all about what school would have been like in the late 1800's.
The flag had a few less stars on it and The Pledge was different, no mention of God.

Wrought iron detail from one of the desks.
They don't make 'em like they used to!

I love the rusty hinges on the gun shop door.

Peeking in the tavern window.

Love the Christmas cookies.
Hanging inside, you can just make it out in the photo below, is a German style tree, hung upside down, with cookies and pretzels for decoration.

I just opened a pro Flickr account. I have an album with my favorite Landis Valley photos HERE.

Love and Scratches and Sweet Feed

For the first time in nearly 4 years I'm back to feeding horses.
I was asked by the barn owner if I wanted to feed once a day, 2-3 times a week.
Of course I couldn't say no. Now I get to give love and scratches and sweet feed to all the horses in the barn and they are all so nice. The top horse is Bo.

Dayo grazing. You should see this thoroughbred move. Takes my breath away.
Someday I'll get it on the camera.

Faust, dirty but still looking stunning.

Twister the POA (Pony of the Americas).
He's the sweetest pony you will ever meet.
Zoe loves to groom him and ride him out to his pasture.

Rosie and her neigh-bor V.
 They are in love.

"Hey Rosie, can I play with your ball?"

Barn Photos in Black & White

It was snowing quite heavily when Zoe and I made our way to the barn to see Rosie. Her owner is in sunny Cancun this week and we are caring for her on days we usually don't. We both really enjoy it!

Rosie is such a gentle mare.

Zoe tries to take her blanket off but can't manage the hooks yet.

Sophie the warmblood weanling is giving me the hairy eyeball!

Zoe loves Rosie and attaches herself to Rosie's leg after riding.
Honestly one of the sweetest horses I have ever met. I don't even attach a leadrope on her when Zoe rides, she follows me around the indoor like a puppy dog. She even jogs when I do!
How lucky we are to have this opportunity!

I bless the hoss from hoof to head -
From head to hoof, and tale to mane! -
I bless the hoss, as I have said,
From head to hoof, and back again!

Sunday at the Barn

Faust and pony friend. Faust is blind in this eye.

I was able to borrow a western saddle that is just Zoe's size for her to ride in.
Rosie decided it was time to show Zoe what a trot feels like and her response was a giggle and not crying which was good! I was thankful she had that horn to hold on to!
The cold weather was making Rosie very frisky because she gave me a few bucks when I asked for the trot. Luckily we got over that!

 Faust's good eye. I love horse's eyes.

A split second too late for a nice shot.
Oh well, blinky shots are funny to me:)

This little barn kitten makes me laugh when I look at him.
Found out he likes to chase the end on a whip:)
