Loosen up!

It is my dream to be able to paint like Munnings. I know, I'm asking a lot of myself. It's just that I get so wrapped up in detail and I would love to paint a nice horsey landscape that is loose and painterly. I pulled out a little 8 x 10 canvas the other day and found a picture I took at Devon of a lovely grey jumper in the warm up ring. I don't know if I am accomplishing my goal. It just looks a tad sloppy to me. Maybe I should find a favorite painting of his and try to reproduce it. It's how a lot of the masters learned, right?

Here's another photo of my bay thoroughbred. The horse is about finished. Not sure how to proceed with the background. It's not my area of expertise. Either way it has to dry some before I add more.

Two more photos from around the house. One is of my finch feeder this morning. Count 'em, that's 8 finches on that thing! If it was full, I'm sure there'd be more.
The picture of my kitty, Zazu, shows her lying on the cat bed I made her with some very cute owl and pumpkin polar fleece.

Lastly I'd like to thank 3 wonderful blogger for recent awards. If you have the chance, please stop by their blogs, you will be happy you did!

Wonderful paintings! - Copying is the best practice sometimes - especially if the artist you admire has a distinct style. I love the way you paint though - but it is good to strech your wings sometimes too.

I have kitty envy! (we don't have one here)

Your art is absolutely gorgeous. I'm a new blog follower (hopefully, I'll buy stuff too and replace one of the two who left you (I came from your Etsy forums post about a certain political posting))

I really love the necklaces in your etsy shop!

You ARE an amazing painter! There is such a lifelike quality to your work.
When I first learned to paint (acrylic) I took a class from a gal at her home, she had us copy work to learn technigue. I haven't painted anything in a few years, I kind of lost interest once I began blogging. It really is relaxing, I have a few blank canvases, I should give it a go again!

Jennifer, I just saw that your 33 and reading Harry Potter.

First off, the books are fantastic. I loved them (I'm 52)and they only get better as they go along.

Second off, that you are 33 and paint like that. I came over to put my name in for your giveaway and when I first came and saw your paintings (which are magnificent) I really thought they were being painted (in my minds eye) by a much older person because they are so perfect. I don't know who Munnings is, but your work is amazing.

Peace

Renee

Thank you so much for the kind comments! One of my biggest problems is that I second guess myself and I often think my work is no good. I guess growing up I thought you had to go to art school to be a "real" artist.

Renee, I just read your comment:)
I hope you get this because I often forget to check if a blogger has responded to my comments.
I am darn depressed right now b/c minutes ago I finsihed Half Blood Prince and I cried like a baby through the last 2 chapters. I can hardly paint feeling like this!
Oh, & I must update my profile b/c I'm nearly 35 now:)

I hear you on loving the loose painterly style, I think you've captured it well here. I've loosened up a bit, but I want to experiment with it more in the future.

And I think we all second guess ourselves as artists, I did for years and was afraid to put myself out there, so even blogging has been a bit step for me. Your work is amazing, girl!
Hugs,
Kat
