So much beauty...

Reflecting on 9/11 today, I wonder why, when there is so much beauty in the world, that so many people are hell bent on destruction.
Here is one of my favorite quotes from the movie American Beauty, I think if it almost everday.

It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in.
~American Beauty, 1999

Peace be with you.

I think of all the blogs today, yours was my favorite. I chose not to revisit the horrors of 9/11, I think we just give the terrorists more air time. I prefer to do like you--remember the good in this world instead. Nice. Thanks.

Thank you, thank you so much for this great post today. I'm stunned to see it because last night I thought about that scene withe the bag - and I had the thought that without the bag, would I still "get it"? And that's hard, to see that passion and beauty in everything, even just a dingy corner of an alleyway without the dancing bag... that movie really tore me up and I have only seen it once - I have not summoned up the guts to see it again but I do love it so much and it really contributed to me life. The "heart caving in" part - is that Nirvana? Is it true enlightenment? Whatever it is, it is really powerful. Thanks so much for reminding me of the journey toward really taking in the brilliance all around us, all the time.
