Cemetery at Overlook

My daughters favorite place to play is Overlook Park. It's a nice park with a huge new playground, dog park, golf course, upscale restaurant, walking paths, pool, skatepark and an old graveyard. Of course you know what my favorite part of the park is!
Just a few old tombstones in a corner of a field of queen anne's lace (my favorite wildflower). I love to walk there in the evening.

In a Disused Graveyard
The living come with grassy tread
To read the gravestones on the hill;
The graveyard draws the living still,
But never anymore the dead.
The verses in it say and say:
"The ones who living come today
To read the stones and go away
Tomorrow dead will come to stay."
So sure of death the marbles rhyme,
Yet can't help marking all the time
How no one dead will seem to come.
What is it men are shrinking from?
It would be easy to be clever
And tell the stones: Men hate to die
And have stopped dying now forever.
I think they would believe the lie.
~Robert Frost

Wow, another stunning post... that sunset -- a perfect ending. A few observations about the old headstones: Isn't it great how some of them have so, so much inscribed on them? It's neat when they have a meaningful message and biographical notes, and not just a last name and dates. The beautiful old cursive script is fabulous. I enjoyed visiting the very old and historic Sonoma Cemetary when we lived there. My favorite contemporary headstone inscription there simply read: "Just keep workin'!" I love that and think of it a lot. Good advice. Cheers! Bonnie

Hello Jennifer! Great posting...I adore the poetry of Robert Frost. What beautiful photos...the park is gorgeous. We'll actually be visiting the Lancaster area quite soon - vacation time. Any suggestions on what we may visit? Sincerely, Theresa

Theresa,
I would suggest going to Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine River Museum in Chester County - they have a great exhibit that just started on The Seven Deadly Sins by Jamie Wyeth. It's all done with seagulls! In Lancaster County, there are a ton of fun things to do in the city of Lancaster: music at the Chameleon Club and PA Academy of Music, the Fulton Theater, galleries on Prince Street, cool shops on Queen Street, Central Market - the city is the happening place. Have fun!

That is so cool , i practically grew up playing in graveyards ....to this day i find them to be one of my favorite places and most people dont see the beauty in a cemetary they think i am weird and morbid or whatever , its good to know Zoe is experiencing this , she will cherish those memories forever.
The photos of the queen Anne's Lace is just otherworldly and personifies pure beauty to me. Its also my mom's favorite wildflower......I'll always think of her when i see them. As always , your art and photography brings out those feelings in me even in the turmoil of darkness that seems to reign suprememe. I need to start visiting your blog everyday perhaps!
