One of the oldest carousels in the US is on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD at the Trimper's Amusement Park. This 100 year old beauty is my favorite thing about the boardwalk and the first place I head to take pictures while on vacation. You can read more about the history of this Herschell-Spillman
carousel here.

Wow - these are just fabulous. I love the second and third photos, especially. There is such magic about a carousel. They were always my favorite to ride when I went to carnivals. Theresa

What is it about carousel's that make them so fascinating, so romantic and mesmerising?
they are wonderful, if I ever win the lottery, I will have a Kitchen full of carosel horses and guests will have to sit on them instead of chairs.:) Lindax
Love carousels... want to go to Missoula to see the famous carousel there one of these days....
Oh how beautiful! They sure don't build them like that anymore. It looks like something from Mary Poppins - but better :)
Great photos!
Amazing! The lighting effects really bring them to explosive life! The dragon is s-s-s-cary! Have a great time.
What a beautiful carosel! I love the old ones that have all kinds of different animals.
Jen those are great pictures! I LOVE carousels and the older the better !
Hope you are enjoying your vacation!
I can't wait to see how it inspires you. There is another by the same maker in Myrtle Beach SC. I posted a blog with photos at

Great Herschell-Spillman machine Jen! :-)
Ah, that brings back memories of us going to the zoo and hopping on the carousel there. It was such a treat and we loved it. That was over 50 years ago and that same carousel is there today. I love them. Your photos are amazing, capturing each detail and go round.
