Side Saddle Elegance

Tired of seeing riders prance around on their fancy horses?
Well tough, it's not over yet! I went to my favorite event, the Devon Horse Show, 4 times this year and took about 600 photos (and loved every minute of it). I shall edit them down to my favorites so as to not bore you completely.
Here's one of my favorite events, the side saddle class.
I think a man should try out for this. I'm all for equal rights in the show ring:)
If you prefer your equines more countrified, scroll down to the end of this post.

And this is what I see on the way home so I had to whip out my camera and take a quick shot!

Where Champions Meet...

Yes, my dream is coming true, I will have a few paintings on display at the Caracol Silver booth this year at the Devon Horse Show.  For the next 10 days I will be working like a mad woman to finish a few new paintings, all will be based on photos I have taken at this prestigious show over the years. I have been going to Devon ever since I was a young child. My father worked for Mrs. Hope Scott and she would give us free tickets. Next to Christmas it was the highlight of my year (and still is).

So looking through boxes of old photos taken before digital cameras existed, I found some nice black and whites I wanted share. Had to scan these in so the quality isn't the best. I love the elegance of side saddle and it's still one of my favorite events to watch.

I noticed last year they don't wear the beautiful top hats anymore.
I suppose it's safer but doesn't look as pretty.

Please stop by the Caracol tent if you go, right near the exhibitor's entrance of the Dixon Oval.

Devon Horse Show

Zoe, my mom and I went to the Devon Horse Show yesterday for Lady's Day. We were able to catch a few jumper classes as well as hunter over fences and side saddle. It was hot but we had a wonderful time! Here are a few favorites. I took over 200 photos. Some are also in my flickr page (link on the right side bar).

Team Giveaway and New Work

I'm happy to announce that Whoa Team, an Etsy horse art group, is having it's first of many monthy giveaways. To enter you must visit the Whoa Team Blog and leave a comment on the giveaway post. We have three wonderful prizes to win! I'm giving away a pendant, Artwolf has donated a purse mirror & magnet and De La Renaissance will be giving away two lovely prints.
Each month stop back to see what our next giveaway will be!

On a seperate note, I've added a few new pieces to Ebay. My favorite one is this miniature, ACEO size (2.5" x 3.5") painting of a bay thoroughbred. My inspiration came from a photo I took during a sidesaddle class at Devon a few years ago.

And to those who were curious, we did see Coraline on Saturday and it was excellent!
My husband fell asleep somewhere in the middle so maybe it's not a film to drag your dh to but I thought it was absolutely gorgeous. They Might Be Giants even did a fun song for it. You can hear the main theme song on my playlist on the sidebar of this blog. It is hauntingly beautiful!
