Baaa...

I had a fabulous fall day at Landis Valley Museum with my friend Sandy Sandy and her wonderful parents and sister.

Today it was the Tunis sheep that proved the most photogenic.

As we were approaching the horse barn, Sandy gazed up in the sky and said, "look at the bald eagle." 

I thought she was crazy until I saw the white head. 

And then we saw TWO!

A very odd site in Lancaster County.

Such beautiful colors. Like Mother Nature's stained glass with all the light coming through.

One of my favorite residents, Tanya the turkey.

It really is a magical time of year.

I have been working on a few things in my own studio. Since being accepted as an official Trail of the Painted Ponies artist, I've been trying to create a few more original ponies. Lately I've been obsessed with the live cam of a barn owl and her owlets (click here - caution, it's addicting) so I thought a barn owl pony would be fun. Here is the finished piece, now on Ebay. I'll have a hard time parting with this one.

Black Cat, Bay Horse

I love summer! My husband is a teacher so he's off work and I can finally get to painting. There is so much I can accomplish when I don't have a 3 year old under foot. Wild Ride

Just finished this fun new Halloween tray with a witch out for a midnight ride. I was inspired by this little poem. The author is unknown so I'm thinking it was on an old postcard or something...

When witches go riding,

and black cats are seen,

the moon laughs and whispers,

‘tis near Halloween.



Also finished a new Gypsy Vanner welcome sign. I did the lettering in a Celtic font and added some wildflowers and butterflies. Both pieces are on Ebay!

Halloween Spirit

I suppose my three most recent Sleepy Hollow pieces have put me in the Halloween spirit! I just finished a very cool little mirror with a black cat and witch. Thought I would share - it's currently on Ebay for a 3 day auction.




I'm happy to report that my little wren has convinced (I hope, fingers crossed) his lady friend to nest in my white birdhouse. Here he is peeping out...



I'm also currently in love with all the gorgeous lilies blooming all around the yard! They seem to have come back bigger and better than last year.



And I've relocated one of the baby groundhogs. I hope she caught up with her mother in the park!

Wordless Wednesday - Yard Critters

Rare Bird?

While out for a walk the other day a flash of red caught my eye in a pine tree. At first I thought it was just an ordinary cardinal but upon closer inspection I realized it was a bird I had never seen before. Now I have three bird feeders and a birdbath outside my window. I love to take walks in parks and through woods. I have several books on birds. It was such a surprise to see something new. He was hanging out in a pine tree with his mate. Luckily I had a camera and was able to take his picture. Wish it could have been a better shot. Of course people reading this probably see these birds all the time and think I'm weird for writing about it. According to my book he's a white winged crossbill and they don't usually venture down this far south.




I felt like painting a few signs today since my daughter went to spend the day with her Grandmother. Both pieces are currently on Ebay.

Christmas is coming...

...the chickadees are getting fat! I have a birdfeeder outside of our dining room window. Nothing make me happier that watching them at the feeder while I'm eating breakfast or lunch. This little guy peeked in the window to say hello this morning.
Of course nothing is more frustrating than squirrels getting my expensive sunflower seed. I have a corn cob feeder for them on my maple out back. It is a constant battle to keep them out of my bird seed!

White Pumpkins

I love white pumpkins and have been wanting to paint a sign featuring them for quite awhile. I finally painted a few on my new sign featuring a group of Halloween friends.

Yard Sale Find

I bought this great Bethany Lowe Halloween witch at a yard sale this weekend. She was $15 but her box had an original price of $110! I'll call that quite a find. I've been searching the internet trying to find out more about her and haven't come up with a thing. If anyone knows about this witch could you please leave a comment?

Also have a pair of little black cat paintings on ebay right now. I don't think they photographed very well, they look much cuter in person.

Tuxedo Halloween

My newest sign creation came from a request for a tuxedo cat by one of my wonderful customers.
My model for the cat was actually my own dear Zazu. She is not a tuxedo but she does have the white markings and sweet face. She doesn't have a ghost blaze either but she has one brewing:)
I was also inspired by that famous vintage postcard of the black cat in the pumpkin.
I will be listing this piece on Ebay in a day or so.
