Beautiful Bovines
"Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures; none show more passionate tenderness to their young when deprived of them; and, in short, I am not ashamed to profess a deep love for these quiet creatures."

Black Baldies
When you cross an Angus cow (below) with a Hereford bull (third photo) you get a beautiful cross that is known as a black baldy (above photo). I think I have to paint one someday soon!
These calves have a little of their daddy's red coloring.
All these photos were taken on my stepfather's brother and sister in law's farm.
They also have chickens. I REALLY want chickens.
These look like Buff Orpingtons.
Mucho sunflowers and basil back at my mother's garden.

Jersey Girls Rock!
Hee hee, I bet you didn't think I was talking about cows! I LOVE Jersey cows. I dream about someday owning one. They are so sweet and those doe-like eyes I could stare into all day. Their faces truly melt my heart. Last night we went to the last day of the Manheim Farm Show. I live in Lancaster County, PA so many of the towns have farm shows in the fall and this was the last one. Not a large show but enough for me to get my cow fix for awhile.
How could you not fall in love with that face?
This Brown Swiss was just as pretty and she won Grand Champion.
The barns were kept very clean and nicely decorated.
Cute little red Holstein heifer.
"That'll do pig."
Even Zoe found a friend from preschool to walk around with.

Lancaster County
It's what I like about living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, you walk out your front door and you're bound to see farm animals sooner or later. Zoe and I just walked across the street and through some woods and weeds (and poison ivy - yikes) and we found this bucolic scene complete with cows, mules, creek and buttercups. Wish I could have gotten close enough to the Canada geese couple and their newly hatched goslings, they were still yellow and fluffy! The funny part about the area where I live is that you have new $500,000+ homes and Amish farms right next door. I think it that big house looks out of place, don't you?
